Plain paratha recipe - Parathas are unleavened Indian flatbreads made with whole wheat flour. Plain Paratha (Parantha) is yummy triangle shaped Indian flat-bread made of whole-wheat flour. There are various types of parathas that one can prepare e.g with filling of aloo. A paratha (pronounced [pəˈrɑːtʰə]) is a flatbread native to the Indian subcontinent, prevalent throughout the modern-day nations of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh.

The ingredients needed to make Plain prath:
  1. Prepare 2 cups whole wheat flour (atta) 1 to 2 teaspoon oil or ghee
  2. Take 1/2 teaspoon salt or add as required water as required for dough
  3. Prepare oil or ghee for roasting, add as required

It is made from whole wheat flour only unlike other breads made with all. A paratha is a flat bread that originated in the Methi paratha,Onion Paratha,Mooli paratha etc. Today we are going to make plain and easy. Paratha can be plain or stuffed with greens, vegetables or cheese.

Instructions to make Plain prath:
  1. Kneading dough - - In a bowl take whole wheat flour. Add salt, oil and water.
  2. Mix and then knead into a smooth soft dough.
  3. Add more water if required while kneading.
  4. Cover and keep the dough aside for 30 minutes
  5. Method to make triangular folded plain paratha - - Pinch a medium sized ball from the dough. Flatten and dust with some flour.
  6. With a rolling pin, roll into a circle of about 4 inches diameter.
  7. Spread some ghee on the dough circle. Fold in a half.
  8. Now spread some ghee on this half folded dough.
  9. Fold sideways and this time you will get a folded triangle.
  10. Dust some flour on the folded triangle. Now begin to roll the folded triangle.
  11. Add some flour if required and roll into a circle of about 6 to to 7 inches diameter.
  12. Begin to roll. Add some more flour if required while rolling. Roll into a round paratha
  13. Making plain paratha - - Heat tava (griddle) and place the paratha on the tava. The tawa should be medium hot.
  14. You will soon see the paratha puffing up from the base at some places.
  15. Flip the paratha when the base is 1/4 cooked. Spread some ghee.
  16. Flip again when the second side is about 1/2 cooked. You will see brown spots now.
  17. Spread some ghee on this side now..
  18. Flip again a couple of times till you see more brown spots and the paratha is cooked evenly.
  19. Make all parathas this way. Either serve them hot or stack them in a roti basket.
  20. Serve these plain paratha with any qeema or vegetable curry or pickle.

Today we are going to make plain and easy. Paratha can be plain or stuffed with greens, vegetables or cheese. Plain parathas are usually layered and are served with any subji or gravy. Our paratha recipe is a plain paratha recipe which is a basic Punjabi paratha. Flip the plain paratha and cook till brown spots appear on both the sides.
