Ellu sadam is a very simple rice recipe which we generally during the Saturdays of the tamil month Puratasi. Grind fried sesame seed mixture into a powder. Add mustard seeds, asafoetida, urad dal, curry leaves, peanuts and cashew nuts. Add cooked rice, powdered sesame mixture, salt and ghee.

Steps to make Ellu Sadam / Sesame Rice:
  1. Combine the as all ingredients and grind them and make fine powder.
  2. Heat oil in a pan when oil is hot add mustard seeds and allow to crackle.
  3. Add the chanadal, urad dal and dry red chilli fry until golden brown.
  4. Add curry leaves, peanut and 1 tbsp ground powder fry for few seconds on low heat.
  5. Now add the cooked rice and season with salt.
  6. Mix well so that rice is well blended with ellu powder.
  7. Serve hot with appalamor vadam and pickle and papad.
