The ingredients needed to make Moong dal khichdi:
  1. Prepare 1/2 cup gobindabhog or basmati rice
  2. Prepare 1/2 cup sona moong dal
  3. Take 2 potatoes cut into cubes
  4. Prepare 2 green chillies(spited)
  5. Make ready 1 dry red chilli
  6. Prepare 1 bay leaf
  7. Take 1 small piece ginger(grated)
  8. Get 1 tomato (chopped)
  9. Make ready 1/4 cup small coconut pieces
  10. Prepare 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  11. Take to taste Salt
  12. Make ready 1/4 tsp jeera seeds
  13. Get 1 tbsp ghee
  14. Make ready 4 cups warm water or as required
  15. Take As needed Coriander leaves

It just melts in your mouth. You can also add ghee, but I'm not a fan of eating ghee raw. Khichdi also goes perfectly with yogurt and achaar (pickle). It lends a creamy flavor with a salty kick.

Steps to make Moong dal khichdi:
  1. Soak rice & dal in water for minimum 30 mints, then rinse it well,drain the water & keep aside.
  2. Heat ghee in a pan, add jeera seeds, bay leaf, dry red chilli.When jeera splutters,add green chilli, grated ginger,chopped tomatoes.
  3. Now add the potato,coconut pieces & fry for a mints.Then add the drained rice, dal & mix well.Add salt,turmeric powder.
  4. Pour 4 cups water or as required.Pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
  5. Once the pressure subsides by itself drizzle little ghee on top.
  6. Garnish it with coriander leaves & coconut pieces.Serve hot with papad, pineapple chutney or any other of your choice.
