The ingredients needed to make Kali Masoor Dal:
- Prepare 1 bowl kali masoor dal, washed, soaked in water overnight,
- Make ready 1/2 tsp haldi powder,

- Prepare 2 tbsp fresh tomato purée,
- Make ready 1 tsp garlic paste,

- Take 1/2 tsp garam masala powder,
- Get 2 tbsp fresh cream,

Kali masoor dal is different than Dal Makhani. Eat it once a Kali Masoor Dal has been our family favorite as I remember enjoying it with white steamed rice all the. Masoor dal is a brown skinned lentil that is orange on the inside. It is also knows as 'Kali masoor ki dal' and is a perfect protein food for vegetarians.
Instructions to make Kali Masoor Dal:
- Take a pressure cooker, add dal, salt, haldi powder, hing & oil.
- Add water accordingly so as to keep dal a lil thick. Place the lid now, give 5 whistles at high flame.
- Lower the flame now, cook it for 10- 15 minutes. Open the lid after cooling, stir it nicely. Keep aside.
- Take a wok, add ghee, heat it. Add zeera, let it splutter.
- Now add onion, stir fry it till brown. Add ginger garlic paste, also add lil water, sauté it for a while.
- Now add tomato purée & salt, sauté it for a while.
- Add red chilli powder, sprinkle some water, stir it, cook it for a while.
- Add garam masala powder & fresh cream, give a stir, cook it until ghee separates.
- Add dal, mix well, stir it nicely.
- Give a boil, lower the flame, cook it for 3-4 minutes, keep stirring.
- Remove it from the flame, take out in serving bowl, garnish it with a drizzle of curd.
Masoor dal is a brown skinned lentil that is orange on the inside. It is also knows as 'Kali masoor ki dal' and is a perfect protein food for vegetarians.
