The ingredients needed to make Moong Dal Idli:
  1. Make ready 1/2 cup moong dal (split green gram)
  2. Prepare 1/2 cup urad dal (split black gram)
  3. Get 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
  4. Get to taste salt
  5. Make ready 1 tsp. eno fruit salt
  6. Take as needed oil to grease the idli moulds

However I like moong dal, for me it's as good as any other dal. All you need is a good tadka (tempering) and your delicious. Moong dal (pasi parupu) is very nutritious, needs less soaking and is easy to digest. Moong dal dosa can be prepared in a jiffy.

Instructions to make Moong Dal Idli:
  1. Wash both the lentils well and soak overnight along with the fenugreek seeds. Then grind into a smooth batter by adding very little water. The batter should not be too thin or too thick.
  2. Add salt and mix well. Cover and keep aside in a warm place for 8-10 hours to ferment. Add eno fruit salt and 1 tbsp. of water.
  3. Give it a quick stir and spoon the batter into greased idli moulds. Steam for 15-20 minutes. Demould when it cools down slightly. Serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar.
